Glenn Gissler is the founder and principal of Glenn Gissler Design, a Manhattan interior design firm established in 1987. He holds degrees in both Fine Arts and Architecture from the Rhode Island School of Design, a dual foundation that informs his holistic approach to interior environments.

Design Philosophy

We’re influenced far more by the architecture and our clients’ lifestyles than by trends. That’s what drives our decisions.
How do you balance long-lasting design with trends?
We aim to create interiors that endure. Furnishing a home is a significant investment, so thoughtful decisions matter. Quality is always the priority.
What are your thoughts on sustainability in design and how it ties to antiques or vintage pieces?
We look for the highest quality our clients are willing to invest in so pieces can last for years. Vintage and antique items bring distinct character, and keeping them in use supports longevity and sustainability.
What draws you to antique or vintage rugs in your projects?
We love working with Nazmiyal. The selection of antique and vintage rugs is outstanding, and their contemporary offerings are exceptional.
How do you usually incorporate rugs when starting a design scheme, as a foundation or as an accent?
One of the first things we determine is the rug size. We’re very exact about dimensions, and it can be challenging for rug dealers because there’s little flexibility. If we can’t find the perfect rug in the exact size, we may resize one thoughtfully. In other cases, we commission a new rug to match the spirit of an antique in the size we need, and we also work with contemporary rugs.
