The dramatic scale of the custom ‘Grandville solid teak four-post bed from Robert Lighton  truly commands this spacious Master Bedroom in a large Colonial Revival home located in Westchester County, New York.

The custom ‘Aspen’ bedside tables from Holly Hunt hold custom ‘Sophie’ lamps in a full gloss platinum finish with ‘Vellum’ paper shades from Christopher Spitzmiller.

The bedding is from Frette, with a custom decorative pillow made by Genesis Upholstery that features two antique textile fragments with metal threads applied to a silk ground, mounted onto a cotton velvet covered cushion with bronze cording.

The fabric for the curtains is a fully custom hand-embroidered linen from Ranjit Ahuja from ALT for Living, the curtains were made by Doreen Interiors.

In the left corner is a Boudin chair and ottoman made by Jonas – upholstered in a Holly Hunt/Great Plains fabric. The early 20th century Austrian table is from Fleur, and holds an antique Chinese bronze vessel made into a table lamp.

The antique Mahogany Parlor chair has a seat upholstered in a Mokum fabric ‘Focus’.

The Paris Chandelier is from Holly Hunt Studio.

In this large apartment in New York City, a large round table was selected for its ‘democracy’ (i.e. no heads of the table), and for how it compliments the nearly square shape of the room.

The 72″ diameter inlaid Pearwood table custom-made by Holly Hunt can seat 8 people without putting in either of the two 18″ leaves, when the table can comfortably seat 12.

The chairs were a customized version of the “Russell” chair from Dessin Fournir, upholstered in a Jerry Pair leather called “City Slickers

The custom area rug was made by Tai Ping in a pattern and density to accommodate very regular use, and to help camouflage any stains if they occur.

The antique cabinet circa 1927 designed by Gio Ponti is made of Italian Fruitwood and has understated neoclassic elements including bronze details.

The chandelier was custom-made by Lorin Marsh on the islands of Murano, in the lagoons surrounding Venice, Italy. The fixture was made using traditional techniques in the manner of a 1940’s original Venetian glass.

The curtain panels were tailored from a Holly Hunt wool satin; the tailored Roman shades in a sheer fabric from Rogers & Goffigon called “Romance”.

The pair of painted portraits are of family relatives long past, and the ink drawing on the Gio Ponti server is by Louis Bourgeois.

Behind the Scenes: Old-School Bathroom

This Master Bathroom in a pre-war apartment building on the Upper East Side was designed with an old-school sensibility.

By removing the bathtub to install an oversized stall shower with a vintage-styled shower door in matte nickel, the room feels much larger and lighter, and reflects the ‘take a quick shower’ lifestyle of the owner.

The custom vanity we designed has a stone top with built-up edge in ‘Perlino Bianco’ from Stone Source.

Both the ‘Astoria’ faucet set with lever handles and the ‘Opus’ wall sconce in matte nickel are both from Waterworks.

By using the same tiles in the shower and on the floor one experiences the entire footprint of the room – making it feel more spacious. The tiles are marble mosaics from Sicis with a field of ‘Verde Luna’, with ‘Bianco Antico’ used for border tiles.

The shower wall tiles are ‘Lanka’ subway tiles from Nemo Tile.

Behind the Scenes: Kids’ TV Room

In a suburban Westchester house we designed a TV room for three young girls with bright upbeat colors. Little girls however do grow up so we planned the room to be playful now, and more sophisticated later.

The Jonathan Adler Indian Kilim Flatweave area rug is the centerpiece of the room; it lays on top of wall-to-wall carpeting to allow for a change-out later.

The overscaled L-shaped sectional sleep sofa from Avery Boardman allows the room to double as a Guest Room. The sofa is upholstered in rich purple cross-hatch plain weave from Osborne & Little.

The capiz shell chandelier hangs over a West Elm White Lacquered Table; although now discontinued, there are some good choices for kid-friendly rooms.

Havana Swing-Arm Lamps, from Jonathan Adler add additional retro-style.

The room is designed for the pillows and cushions to be used on the floor with kids sprawled about. Some of the accent pillows are covered in a sensational printed stripe from Scion Fabrics, distributed by Zoffany.
