Designer Barn Sale Post Script

With excellent weather (despite the reports!) the Designer Barn Sale Tom Luciano and I held at my sorta-new pretty-old house in Roxbury, Ct last weekend was a rousing success.
.
More than 250 people showed up to pursue the wide variety of furnishings we had artfully arranged (if I do say so myself!) in what is the largest barn on my property.
.
A steady stream of sophisticated shoppers were on hand – some who had received the email announcing the sale, and others who saw the designer signs announcing the Designer Barn Sale placed at a number of key locations in Roxbury.
.
Among the many locals who showed up were dozens of people who mentioned that they had been at the House Sale that happened just before I took possession of the house, and were kvelliing over the dramatic transformation of the property and the barn; they all loved the openness of the landscape and the extended view over the Roxbury Land Trust – Lilly Preserve – behind my property.
.
Some of the design notables in attendance were the artist Steven Miller, antiques aficionado Craig Van Den Bruelle, Dale Cohen, PR Maven Wendy Silverstein, dealers Richard Lambertson & Suzanne Cassano, Rhonda Eleish, ASPIRE magazine’s Amy Sneider, Alexandra Carlin from the Hearst Corporation, and my clients Mariella and Brian Winthrop.
.
Here are a few shots of the offerings from early Saturday morning just as folks began arriving.

On behalf of Tom and myself I’d like to say a special word of thanks to everyone — old friends, and some new ones — who came by the sale. And whatever your plans are for these last 2 weekends of the summer season, enjoy yourselves!

A Designer Barn Sale in Roxbury, Connecticut!

Glenn Gissler - Blog - 2015 - Glenn-Gissler-Barn-Sale

I am going to be hosting a Designer Barn Sale at my still-pretty-new-very-old-house in Roxbury, Connecticut on August 22-23.

I am doing the sale in collaboration with my long-time friend Tom Luciano – who co-founded the now well-known antique store Historical Materialism in NYC before moving to a  fabulous storefront in Hudson for many years.  Between the 2 of us there are many exciting pieces in the sale – everything from seating, floor lamps and table lamps, artwork, cabinets, iron pieces, ceramics, tables, antique textiles, and curiosities.

If you’re going to be in Litchfield County the weekend of the 22nd — or would like to plan to come for the sale, you can follow this link to email me for more details and for the address and directions.  I certainly hope to see some familiar faces — and to make some new friends.

Here are a few of the many items that will be available for purchase;

InCollect.com — and my Collection of ‘Enduring Pieces’

Glenn Gissler - Blog - 2015 - 1423085819_001bEDIT1

The arts, in all their guises, have been a lifelong interest and passion of mine and inform my interior design projects. I carefully layer pieces from various time periods – often with classic furniture forms — to create spaces that are warm, supremely comfortable, with the aspiration they will transcend time.

InCollect, a new and very handsome on-line destination for enthusiasts of art, antiques and design, asked me to browse their collections and select items that appealed to my aesthetic. Here are some of my selections….

There two Bellinis? I will take one of each!

Gissler - Bellini - 2015 - Blog Glenn Gissler - Blog - 2015 - Bellini-Mario-©-Albert-Greenwood11

I am fond of two different Bellinis – both Italian, both legends, and both created in the 1930’s.

One Bellini is a drink invented at Harry’s Bar in Venice – a beverage that mixes Prosecco with peach nectar – the other Bellini, originally from Milan, is the architect and designer Mario Bellini.

Bellini – Mario that is – was recently in New York City to speak about about his career – including a 50+ year relationship with Cassina Furniture – and to share some thoughts on design, inspiration and to launch a couple new pieces of furniture.

I jumped at the opportunity to be in the presence of such legendary greatness….
